What each tab calculates
What is X% of Y? multiplies the percentage by the value, so 12.5% of 80 = 10. X is what percent of Y? divides the part by the whole and multiplies by 100, so 25 of 200 = 12.5%. Percentage increase or decrease uses (to – from) / from x 100, so a move from 200 to 250 gives 25%, and the reverse direction gives -20%.
How to read the result
Under every answer the tool restates the formula with your exact numbers. Enter 25 and 200 and it shows “25% of 200 = 50” together with the sentence “25% of 200 equals 50”. A result above 100% means the part is larger than the whole. A negative result means a decrease, or a part below zero. A result of 0% means no change. Answers keep up to 6 decimal places with trailing zeros removed: 1 / 3 = 33.333333%, while 25 of 200 stays 12.5%.
Limits
Decimals, negative values, and commas are accepted in every field. Empty fields, letters, a whole of zero, or a starting value of zero stop the calculation and show a message next to the fields instead of an answer.
