An IP address is the numeric label that identifies a device on a network. Every time you open a website, send an email, or stream a video, that address is used behind the scenes, and the services you visit can read a lot of information from it. This IP address info tool shows what a given IPv4 or IPv6 address actually contains: its location, ISP, ASN, hostname, timezone, and technical properties such as its decimal value and binary form.
What is an IP address?
IP stands for Internet Protocol, and the address is a fixed-length number assigned to each device on a network. Two versions are in use today. IPv4 addresses look like 8.8.8.8 and are made of four numbers between 0 and 255. IPv6 addresses look like 2606:4700:4700::1111 and use hexadecimal groups, which gives them a much larger pool of addresses. Every address on the public internet belongs to a range that is registered to an organization, which is why a lookup can tell you the network it comes from.

Address details
You see the IP address itself, the family it belongs to (IPv4 or IPv6), and its classification. A private or reserved class means the address is used on internal networks and can never be reached from the public internet.
Location information
For public addresses, the report includes the country, region, city, postal code, latitude and longitude, continent, and calling code. The data is resolved from the public IP registry and neighborhood databases, so the location shown matches the registered network rather than the exact building of the user.
Network information
The ASN (Autonomous System Number), ISP, organization, and domain fields reveal the operator of the network. Running a lookup on 8.8.8.8, for example, returns Google as the organization. You also get the hostname when a reverse DNS record exists for the address.
Formatting details
Programmers and network engineers often need other representations of the same address. The tool converts an IPv4 address to its decimal integer form and to dotted binary, and it shows an IPv6 address in both expanded and compressed notation. That makes it useful as a quick conversion helper for code, config files, and subnet calculations.
Which ranges get a location lookup?
Not every address can be located. The tool detects reserved ranges locally and skips the external lookup for them: private networks such as 10.0.0.0/8, 172.16.0.0/12, and 192.168.0.0/16, loopback 127.0.0.0/8, link-local 169.254.0.0/16, multicast 224.0.0.0/4, documentation ranges, CGNAT 100.64.0.0/10, and the IPv6 equivalents including ::1, fc00::/7, and fe80::/10. For those addresses the report shows the classification and the formatting details, which is everything that can be known locally.
What is My IP?

That is the same number a website sees when you visit it. It is a one-request lookup that fills the report with your own location, ISP, and ASN in one click.
Privacy and speed
The tool runs in your browser. The address is validated and formatted locally, nothing you type is stored on this site, and no cookies or logs are created. The only external call is a single HTTPS request to a geolocation service when the address you entered is a public one. If that service is unreachable, the report still shows all the local details along with a notice. Inputs stay enable while requests run, the loading state is shown, and the whole page keeps working if the network is slow.

What is my IP address?

Does the IP address info tool work with IPv6?
Yes. IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are both accepted, and IPv6 addresses can be typed in full or short (compressed) notation, with or without brackets. The report shows the expanded form as well.
Is the location of an IP address exact?
Usually close, but not always. Geolocation databases know the registered network of the provider, not the physical place of the device. Cities are often accurate, but the exact coordinates can be off by distance.
Can I tell if someone is hiding behind a VPN or proxy?
Not with this free tool. Flags for proxies, VPNs, and Tor nodes require paid threat-intelligence data, so the report does not include them. It focuses on the openly registered information of the address.
Can I save the report?
